1. Hey there. I'm back with another post on the neglected essentials, this time on work life.

As employees, it's natural for us to aspire to feel content and appreciated in our work. However, it's not always easy to articulate our needs and apprehensions to our managers or superiors.

That's why I'm here to offer some useful advice on how to communicate efficiently and attain what you deserve in the workplace. And if it doesn't work out, maybe try using humor as an alternative approach. For the employers and business proprietors out there, you might want to take a moment and lend me your ear while sipping on a cup of coffee.

Let's start with the Top 5 employee expectations on work-life balance, autonomy, creativity, fair compensation, and appreciation that we may not always feel comfortable expressing:

Work-life balance: We all know the importance of balancing our work and personal lives, but sometimes it can feel like we're expected to be available 24/7. How can we communicate our need for time off without feeling guilty or jeopardizing our job security?

"I am genuinely devoted to this organization, and it's of utmost importance to me to preserve a balanced and healthy relationship between my professional and personal life."

2. Autonomy and independence: Micromanagement can be frustrating and counterproductive. How can we express our need for independence without appearing uncooperative or ungrateful for our job?

"I appreciate the feedback you've given me, but I feel like I could be even more productive if I had more independence to manage my projects. Or I could just bring in my mom to supervise me like old times."

"Communication works for those who work at it." - John Powell

3. Opportunities for creativity and innovation: It can be demotivating when we feel like we're not being challenged or given the opportunity to share our ideas. How can we express our desire for more creativity and innovation without seeming like we're stepping on anyone's toes?

"I really value my role in this company and want to ensure that my contributions are recognized and appreciated. Would you be open to setting up a regular check-in or feedback session to discuss my progress and areas for growth? Or I could just buy a trophy for myself and place it on my desk every day.

Remember, communication is like a game of catch - if you don't throw the ball, you won't catch anything. So don't be afraid to toss your expectations out there and see where they land. Who knows, you might just hit a home run for yourself and your company!
